This summer was all about exploring. We visited a few new places, revisited some old favorites, and spent plenty of time enjoying the incredible scenery Michigan has to offer. One stop I had been looking forward to for a long time was Tahquamenon Falls in the Upper Peninsula—easily one of my favorite places in the state.

I'd been dreaming of creating an elopement-inspired session there for a while, and this summer I finally had the chance. Huge thanks to my friend Beth (and her friend Tony!) for helping make it happen. While these two aren't actually a couple, they were more than willing to hike the trails, brave the bugs and cool weather, and pretend they were getting married for our sunrise shoot.

And yes... Beth even agreed to get close to the edge of the falls for a few photos. Don't worry—we were very careful, stayed where we had permission to be, and it was absolutely worth it.

The more time I spend in places like this, the more I understand why couples choose to skip the traditional wedding and head somewhere that feels meaningful to them instead. Imagine exchanging vows with the sound of rushing waterfalls in the background, spending the day hiking together, exploring somewhere beautiful, and celebrating without worrying about seating charts or timelines packed from morning to night. It's a completely different kind of wedding day—one that's focused on the two of you and the adventure you're beginning together.
