Some photographers are very adamant about first looks, and it’s easy to see why—they free up time for portraits, help streamline the day, and give you extra moments together. But here’s the thing: I will never pressure my couples into doing something they don’t truly want.
In fact, my husband and I skipped the first look on our wedding day!
That said, before you completely nix the idea, here are a few things to consider to help you decide what’s best for your wedding day.
If your schedule is packed, a first look can be a great way to make the most of your time together. Instead of spending most of the day apart before the ceremony, you get to share a quiet, intimate moment beforehand—often in a secluded, beautifully staged setting.
And let’s be real… you get to kiss a little sooner, too! 💋
Some couples hesitate because of the old superstition that it’s bad luck to see each other before the ceremony. But times have changed! First looks are so common now that they could almost be considered the new tradition.
At the end of the day, your wedding should reflect your priorities—so if tradition matters to you, honor it! But if you're open to a first look, know that it’s an option embraced by many couples today.
If you’re getting ready, having the ceremony, and hosting your reception at different places, a first look can help maximize your time. Travel between venues eats up more of the day than you might expect, and setting aside time for portraits earlier means fewer interruptions later.
Less rushing, more celebrating! 🎉
There’s no right or wrong answer—just what feels right for you. Whether you choose a first look or stick with the traditional aisle reveal, I’ll be there to capture every beautiful moment!
Still unsure? Let’s chat about what fits best with your vision for the day.

Wedding day jitters are totally normal! If you’re the type who feels anxious before big moments, a first look can help ease some of those nerves. Seeing each other beforehand can be a grounding, calming experience—one that lets you breathe a little easier before the day’s festivities begin.
